First, thanks so much to Amy for picking my treasury as last week’s challenge winner. When I found out I had won, my first reaction was shock and excitement, followed immediately by, “oh s—t, I don’t have a shop to pick an item from!” It did not take long to figure out what to do, as Sarah DeMoss really goes above and beyond the call of duty in all the work she does for this group, and picking an item from her shop seemed like a no-brainer.
The treasuries this week definitely took the proverbial trip around the world, both literally and figuratively. From Japan to India to Greece, from the silly to the sad to the sensual, the treasuries featuring Sarah’s headband paired it with everything from hearts and cupcakes to unicorns in space and blood splattered kimonos! It is always said, but comparing one treasury to another to pick a “winner” is kind of an absurd task, and one which I was very humbled by. In fact, I ended up picking 2 dozen honorable mentions, and even paring the entries down to that number was painful.
For the winner, I have chosen BB’s If Only. Of course, the saturated reds and stark whites immediately blew me away, but the more I studied it the more I fell in love with it. In my mind, there are 2 types of treasuries – ones based on color/theme and ones that tells a story (you know, the ones that make the nonteam treasuries so distinctive and remarkable). I myself usually shy away from doing the story-ones because, well, they honestly take a lot more time and effort. And it is REALLY hard to do a treasury that both tells a story AND is visually/aesthetically compelling, but BB’s If Only definitely manages to do both, as it evidenced by the overwhelming praise to it she received in her treasury’s comments. BB created not only a visual masterpiece, but also really captured the way in which a feeling of regret and longing can pervade one’s very existence. And so, she is the week’s winner, even though she won previously only a few weeks ago!
